Ranchers came to Ouray for the miners. Cattle were brought to Colorado to provide food for the miners. Ranchers began to brand their cattle to protect them from cattle rustlers. In the spring, baby cows are born and branded and the fields are irrigated. In the summer, the cows are moved to the high mountains and given salt. In the fall, hay is stored and cows are taken to the market. Then ranchers do their tax plan for the next year. Ranchers continue to be part of Colorado.
